A lone figure looks out beyond the sheer precipice from on of the decks of the Aiguille du Midi on Mount Blanc in Chamonix France. Nestled atop a 12,602-ft.-high peak in the French Alps along the Mont Blanc massif, the mountain range named for Europe's highest peak, Aiguille du Midi offers one of the most breathtaking views anywhere in the world.

A cable car goes to the top of the Aiguille du Midi, once the highest cable car in the world, and still the one with the highest vertical ascent, from about 3,395 feet in the nearby French resort town of Chamonix all the way to the peak.
