Artist's Description
This acrylic painting is of Bald Rock, a granite batholith located in Butte County, California, in the Plumas National Forest not far from my studio. Located close to Lake Oroville, the dome peak overlooks Sacramento Valley and coastal mountain ranges. The area was once home to the Maidu, a tribe of indigenous people. The area is home to several animal species, including snakes, deer, mountain lion, and black bear.
I wanted to capture the warmth of the setting sun on the weathered granite and show the forested mountain slope in the distance.

There is something very special about this painting and I love it more than I can say. Perhaps it reminds me of our land in Wyoming, where the rocks look very much like this! The lighting is wonderful, too. Very special work!! v/f/pin!!
